I took my parents' friends' daughter to her first anime convention. It wasn't bad, though I no longer have that much interest in anime. I was able to get presents for the sisters though - mostly Mario-related stuff, as my sister is currently in the throes of an obsession.
Afterwards, though...dreams.
Yes, another freaky FR-related dream. Except this one was more...odd...than normal. For one thing, it was set - as far as I could tell from the clothing - in the late Middle Ages. Certainly it was pre-Renaissance. Yes, I'm aware this doesn't work, but it was how it was!
It was set in the same way a lot of my dreams are set, as a "movie" that I'm supposedly watching. The dream actually started with an argument I was having with someone else - in the dream - about whether or not Danton originally spelled his name "D'Anton", and then this movie started playing. I was aware in the dream that I was watching a movie and was expecting there to be some anti-Robespierrist propaganda in it, because as we all know, most movies are just like that, alas.
The dream featured weird monarchical system politics; Maxime trying to get some influence but because he was supporting the moral cause, not the politically efficient cause, he was about to be crucified in the paper/gossip circles, and some girl named Odessa trying to warn him (I got the impression while watching the movie that she was supposed to be his sister, but seriously, why 'Odessa'???). And then this person walked up to him and invited him home (there was a rather amusing conversation of "Come dine with me tonight. For that matter, come dine with me tomorrow, too." "But...how will it be excused?" "Oh, send me a message with some nonsense in it later in the afternoon, I'll be sure to accept your invitation."), and there was a bizarre scene in which the guy's daughter was flirting with Maxime and Maxime was vaguely creeped by it, and the guy was just vastly amused and teases Maxime about it for a bit as they're walking offstage.
This was followed shortly by a scene in which Maxime is taking a shower (well, dumping cold water from a bucket on his head, then scrubbing with soap, and unfortunately, this shot is shown through a hole-in-the-wall-window so we only see him from the shoulders up), and Danton and some friend are yelling insults up at him. He's yelling insults back. I think the exact conversation was Danton-and-friends: "Hey, look, the great Robespierre is bathing! Good thing we're having such temperate weather this time of year..." And he shouts back, "Looking at you lot, how can people dare say that rich snobs have died out as a race?"
And then for some reason Maxime decides to come down - dressed in armor with a sword, and it is utterly ADORABLE (mostly leather armor, with some metal pieces) - and they start fighting and he gets beaten up because these are 3 rather fit people against...well...Maxime. And they're beating at him with the hilts and flats of their swords, and then they stop and are all like, "Um, is he okay?" and that's when it started blurring, because I was starting to wake up.
I wasn't particularly worried when I woke up, though, because as I was waking up I was assured by the dream that we were only at the beginning of the movie, that this was a necessary scene before Maxime's rise into power and influence (and indeed the scene that starts it) and how he uses it to help the common people and...that's when I woke up entirely.
...I'm confused. It was definitely Maxime, though; even if it was all terribly, terribly confused. Apparently anime cons send my brain fleeing for the comfort of excessively European knights-and-sword era? My brain making bad samurai=knights jokes? And where did the French Revolution get into this?
