PIC: What are they saying about me?!

...because I know myself. I work in small, short, highly concentrated bursts, and in the intervals I do something to distract myself. In this case, drawing!

Today, work got derailed by monthly spine-wracking pain (for some reason, I get pain not only in the abdomen, but in my spine. To the point that my spine spasms. It's not fun, and serious work is nearly impossible to achieve), so I actually finished it!

I also made it into an icon, because...well...it happened to come out in just that format. ^____^ It's not a very good icon, mind you, because I suck at that, so if anyone can make it more, I don't know, legible...? I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying out a new style - slightly more cartoonish than normal, but it seems to be working out pretty nice, so I'll keep going with it until I find something else I like more.

...okay, every time I look at that, my first thought is still "Stripes! *giggle*". *shakes head at self*

I have another thing I'm working on which will be posted as soon as I have time. It's titled "The Many Lies and Slanders Regularly Attached to One Maximilien Robespierre". ...yeeeeeah, it'll be interesting.

This is adorable. And he's also very well-drawn. ^__^

This is completely unrelated, but I suddenly remember I dreamt of Maxime and Antoine snuggling and kissing and Courtois (the one who wrote the Thermidor report) caught them and told Fouché. O.o;

*dead from laughter* XDDD

[identity profile] maelicia.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, really. It was cute because Maxime took Saint-Just's waist. Also, I think they talked about death in between, which justifies the presence of the other two, and Courtois going O___O and running to Fouché, who answered that wasn't really usable in propaganda. -_-;

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
*my turn to die from laughing* "Sorry, it's not really usable in propaganda..." *dead* XDDD

[identity profile] maelicia.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
>_______> But it's true he said that in my dream!!... I know, so stupid, they had to be interrupted. >___>

...Though I think they didn't see Courtois.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cute and somewhat depressing as always with those two. XD

Fouché, who answered that wasn't really usable in propaganda.
I wonder what would make him think that... Hm...

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's probably the fact that it was done while procrastinating. I do my best work when I'm supposed to be doing something else, but isn't that always the way of things? *roll eyes* ^_^

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Very nice. I love the way you did his eyes. :D

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It came out...remarkably well. Probably due to the fact that I was supposed to be doing something else at the time. ^^

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That might have something to do with it. XD What's that squiggly line along his wig supposed to be though?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
^^ Er, I think you're referring to the lines of his glasses...? *shrug* *sweatdrop*

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
-__-; Oh, I didn't realize... Are they supposed to be squiggly like that?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - some of the glasses I've seen from that era, the part extending back to the ears is bendy. I think it's so they could be made longer or shorter depending on the need.

...of course, I could just be making this all up off the top of my head, but I think that's how I remember it. *shrugs* That's generally how I've been drawing them, anyway.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting; I don't think I've ever seen ones like that. In the few contemporary drawings that show him in particular wearing glasses, they're not of that type, but I suppose that doesn't make it impossible that he might have had a pair like that.

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* As you can probably see, my drawings are generally rather changeable. *will probably draw it more accurately next time, now that it's pointed out, so thanks!*

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I enjoy quibbling about this sort of thing, understand. I just thought you might want to know. >__>

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
I do, I do! I mean, if no one ever tells me I'm making mistakes, how exactly am I supposed to not make them next time...? I'm serious, thanks. ^^

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not entirely sure it is a mistake, generally speaking; I've just never seen any like that before. Can you remember where you saw it in the first place?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not the slightest idea, I'm afraid. I just remember that when I first started sketching Maxime in general, I realised I didn't know what his spectacles would look like and went out and looked something up (god knows how or when, my memory isn't terribly good for anything not text-related); that's what I found, so that's what I drew.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Makes sense. Do you remember whether the source was specifically on France or not? (Because sometimes these sorts of details vary from country to country--like wigs.)

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even remember if the source was a book or the internet, so I'm at a loss, but you have a good point - perhaps it was from a different country but the same era. (for that matter, I don't know where I got the mental image for the wig he wears, either...;_;)

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The wig you show in the drawings is right except for one detail; it wasn't the French style at this time to wear wigs with tails. The wig was just the top part and men would wear their hair long underneath it (which is different from the British style of having very short hair or shaved heads and a wig with a tail--that's why I used it as an example). If you look carefully you can see it in profile pictures of Robespierre, but sometimes it's difficult because they're mostly in black and white. I drew a color version of one of those though, if you want to look at it: http://estellelachatte.deviantart.com/art/Robespierre-After-Anonymous-39206973

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*nodding* Yes, I see. That makes sense with what I read - there were conflicting examples, and I couldn't figure out which one was correct. Which is probably why I compromised and made a type halfway between the two...*will use that for future reference*

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww. :D The stripes are terribly spiffy.

I hope your spine will be okay.

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. ^___^ I like the stripes. Even if drawing stripes is annoying.

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
It is. ;-; But the effect is usually worth it.

[identity profile] polypragmosyne.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Very cute! (and so ver right, seeing what people says about him...)

Good luck about the pains... ouch.

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! ^_^ And yes, people do say the strangest things about him. That's the subject of my next picture, actually...

[identity profile] polypragmosyne.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm intrigued! Will you be posting it soon?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. It's almost done, so probably later today. ^^

[identity profile] polypragmosyne.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
OOOOH! Very Well :)
