PIC: What are they saying about me?!

...because I know myself. I work in small, short, highly concentrated bursts, and in the intervals I do something to distract myself. In this case, drawing!

Today, work got derailed by monthly spine-wracking pain (for some reason, I get pain not only in the abdomen, but in my spine. To the point that my spine spasms. It's not fun, and serious work is nearly impossible to achieve), so I actually finished it!

I also made it into an icon, because...well...it happened to come out in just that format. ^____^ It's not a very good icon, mind you, because I suck at that, so if anyone can make it more, I don't know, legible...? I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying out a new style - slightly more cartoonish than normal, but it seems to be working out pretty nice, so I'll keep going with it until I find something else I like more.

...okay, every time I look at that, my first thought is still "Stripes! *giggle*". *shakes head at self*

I have another thing I'm working on which will be posted as soon as I have time. It's titled "The Many Lies and Slanders Regularly Attached to One Maximilien Robespierre". ...yeeeeeah, it'll be interesting.

Thanks! It came out...remarkably well. Probably due to the fact that I was supposed to be doing something else at the time. ^^

That might have something to do with it. XD What's that squiggly line along his wig supposed to be though?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
^^ Er, I think you're referring to the lines of his glasses...? *shrug* *sweatdrop*

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
-__-; Oh, I didn't realize... Are they supposed to be squiggly like that?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - some of the glasses I've seen from that era, the part extending back to the ears is bendy. I think it's so they could be made longer or shorter depending on the need.

...of course, I could just be making this all up off the top of my head, but I think that's how I remember it. *shrugs* That's generally how I've been drawing them, anyway.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting; I don't think I've ever seen ones like that. In the few contemporary drawings that show him in particular wearing glasses, they're not of that type, but I suppose that doesn't make it impossible that he might have had a pair like that.

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* As you can probably see, my drawings are generally rather changeable. *will probably draw it more accurately next time, now that it's pointed out, so thanks!*

Not that I enjoy quibbling about this sort of thing, understand. I just thought you might want to know. >__>

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
I do, I do! I mean, if no one ever tells me I'm making mistakes, how exactly am I supposed to not make them next time...? I'm serious, thanks. ^^

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not entirely sure it is a mistake, generally speaking; I've just never seen any like that before. Can you remember where you saw it in the first place?

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not the slightest idea, I'm afraid. I just remember that when I first started sketching Maxime in general, I realised I didn't know what his spectacles would look like and went out and looked something up (god knows how or when, my memory isn't terribly good for anything not text-related); that's what I found, so that's what I drew.

Makes sense. Do you remember whether the source was specifically on France or not? (Because sometimes these sorts of details vary from country to country--like wigs.)

[identity profile] nirejseki.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even remember if the source was a book or the internet, so I'm at a loss, but you have a good point - perhaps it was from a different country but the same era. (for that matter, I don't know where I got the mental image for the wig he wears, either...;_;)

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The wig you show in the drawings is right except for one detail; it wasn't the French style at this time to wear wigs with tails. The wig was just the top part and men would wear their hair long underneath it (which is different from the British style of having very short hair or shaved heads and a wig with a tail--that's why I used it as an example). If you look carefully you can see it in profile pictures of Robespierre, but sometimes it's difficult because they're mostly in black and white. I drew a color version of one of those though, if you want to look at it: http://estellelachatte.deviantart.com/art/Robespierre-After-Anonymous-39206973

*nodding* Yes, I see. That makes sense with what I read - there were conflicting examples, and I couldn't figure out which one was correct. Which is probably why I compromised and made a type halfway between the two...*will use that for future reference*
